Its my pleasure to bring the work of Ed Panar to Philadelphia for the month of February. Ed’s photography fits within a certain field that few photographers can get right. Stephen Shore began doing it in the 70’s with his series American Surfaces, which at the time was met with speculation and not favorable reviews. Ahead of his time, Shore created a new niche of documentary photography of the quotidian life.
WIth photographic technologies being so available to the public, and so easily seen by the world, it feels like everyone is aspiring to be like Shore (photographing their food), yet it is in the edit that truly makes the contemporary photo essay work. Ed Panar has been working in that medium of the edit for years. He photographs incessantly, and then cuts down to present his view of the world.
Come to Tiger Strikes Asteroid Feb. 1st from 6-10pm or throughout the month of February on the weekends from 2-6 to view the work.
